An agreement between two or more parties for the doing or not doing of something specified. 2. A written agreement enforceable by law or consequences.

Facing History Civilized Classroom Contract Step #3 & 4: Brainstorm & Prioritize Brainstorm Directions: Work with a partner to list 5 norms you will need to create a civilized, reflective classroom environment. Prioritize Directions: Choose 2 norms from the list above that you think are the most important. Then under the Rationale – explain why you chose each.

Facing History Step #5: Civilized Classroom Contract Directions: Whole class share your norms to create a list for the Civilized Classroom Contract. • Class scribe volunteer to copy terms onto the white board as people say them. • While people are identifying norms- All class members should be recording this list into their notes.

  11. Facing History Step #6: Civilized Classroom Contract After the list has been created • Are there any norms that can be combined or eliminated? • Copy final contract norms onto large sheet of paper for all to sign. • Refer to the contract regularly to make sure everyone is following the norms.
