  2. Respect • Responsibility • Resourcefulness The 3 R’s of Good Citizenship

  3. Rosemond believes that teaching our children to respect others is crucial to raising a good citizen in this world. Do you agree with that? • Rosemond believes that teaching manners teaches kids to show respect for others. Is this true? • Do you think it’s important for your children to learn good manners? Why or why not? • Rosemond believes that teaching manners has taken a back seat to learning skills (like sports). What do you think? Respect—Round 1

  4. Rosemond believes that lack of responsibility at home leads to entitlement in children. Do you think that chores play an important role in teaching responsibility? • Rosemond believes parents are too concerned about their child’s “social skills,” so they, to the detriment of the family and child, prioritize after school activities over responsibilities at home. What do you think? • Rosemond quotes sources that suggest that the younger generation struggles to respect authority in the workplace today. How can we help this at home when they are young? Responsibility—Round 2

  5. Rosemond believes that children need to learn to take responsibility for their own mistakes. Give examples of how you can teach your child to: • “Fight your own battles”- I will not get involved with all your problems • “Lie in the beds you make”- Deal with the consequences of your mistakes • “Paddling your own canoe”- Do your own work • “Stewing in your own juices”- I will not make up for your own bad decisions • He believes that parents today are over involved in the child’s lives causing dependency in the child and stress on the parent. What do you think? Resourcefulness—Round 3
