Family Life in China vs. UK: Exploring Cultural Differences

This unit focuses on exploring the concept of family and understanding how family life in China differs from that in the UK. Students will learn Chinese vocabulary related to family members and use grammar to describe the number of people in their family. They will also compare and reflect on similarities and differences between their own community and other communities worldwide.

Task 1 - 写 Write out thenew words into your vocabulary book. rén hé kǒu 人口和 person/people m.w. – people in family and Task 2 - Grammar 和 Write out the grammar note in your exercise book. 和 only links nouns, NOT sentences (verbs) e.g. 爸爸和妈妈 Task 3 – Complete ex. 4 EXT: Write a sentence in Chinese characters describing how many people are in each family using 口 e.g. Derry family has ….. people.

  14. 阅读 Read the sentences and decide if 和 can be used in the blank. Write  for yes and  for no. EXT: Translate the sentence into English.  一。 爸爸四十三岁, ______ 妈妈四十岁。 二。 我有一个姐姐______ 一个妹妹。 三。姐姐叫Amy, ______ 妹妹叫 Zoe。 四。 我家有四口人,爸爸,妈妈,哥哥 ____ 我。 五。我有弟弟____ 我没有哥哥。    

Write a sentence for each one. e.g. 我叫……,我….岁, 我家有…口人。 EXT: Describe who is in their family based on the total number give – you can make it up!
