  2. Special Cells for Special Jobs Nerve cell Blood Cell Muscle cell Bone Cell-Osteoblasts

  3. Fat cells can store so much fat that the nucleus gets pushed against the cell membrane

  4. Fat Cell

  5. provide stability and structure to the body

  6. Bone Cells are surrounded by a hard substance made of calciumand phosphorus

  7. The structure of a nerve cell allows it to more easily transmit nerve signals.

  8. Nerve cells are long and have many branches. This allows them to receive and deliver messages quickly.

  9. Muscle Cells

  10. Muscle cells are usually long and have many fibers that can contract and relax.

  11. The red blood cell shown has a simple structure. Red blood cells carry oxygen to all parts of the body. White blood cells shown fight disease in the body.

  12. Skin Cell

  13. Skin cells are mostly flat and close together. They form a protective layer for your body.

  14. A cell’s shape and size can be related to its function.

  15. Multi-Cellular Organism Hierarchy Cell Tissue Organ Organ System Organism Cells are organized into systems that, together, perform functions that keep the organs healthy and alive.

  16. Tissues Tissues: groups of similar cells that do the same sort of work Ex: Skin cells make up skin tissue

  17. Organs and Organ Systems Organs: different types of tissues working together Organ systems: a group of organsworking together to do a certain job.

  18. Cell organization • Cells are organized into systems that perform functions that keep the organism healthy and alive
