Welcome to the first CGHS Student Council meeting of the 2013-14 year • Purpose • To develop leadership skills in order to enrich the lives of the Central community • Voice & elicit student opinion - RSVP • Create opportunities for interaction • Promote leadership • Sponsor & organize activities that will promote a culture of community & achievement

  3. StuCo runs April to April • RSVP • Fun Days • Leadership Retreats • Capitol Summit - Atlanta • End of Year Banquet • Conventions • GASC – Rock Eagle – February 21-23 • SASC – Greenville, SC – November 2-4 • NASC – June (2014)

  4. Membership • Membership requirements • Application • Dues - $30 {returning members (next year) $15 – pays for t-shirt} • Due with application – May 17 • Pays for shirts • Polo – StuCo events • Yearly themed t-shirts • Points system • Quarter sheets with required meetings & activities

  5. Positions of Leadership • Executive Board (12) • Executive President • Executive Vice President • Executive Secretary • Faculty Relations Committee Chair • Student Relations Committee Chair • Community Service Committee Chair • Spirit Committee Chair • Public Relations Committee Chair • Class Presidents

  6. Executive President • Rising Senior • After this year, a rising senior with at least one year of membership in good standing • Runs all meetings • Coordinates all activities, programs, and events • Attends PTSA meetings when necessary • Leads!!

  7. Executive Vice President • Assists Executive President in running meetings • President of ICC • Assists Executive President in coordinating StuCo activities • Leads!! Executive Secretary • Keeps minutes of all meetings and publishes on website within one week of meeting • Maintains all records and correspondence • Assists Executive President in coordinating StuCo activities • Leads!!

  8. Committees • Faculty Relations • Think of ways you can make teachers happy! • Teacher Appreciation • Administration • Clerical Staff • Lunch Staff • Support Staff • Custodians • Remember! If you don’t feed the teachers, they’ll eat the children!!

  14. Interclub Council • Promotes and correlates the various activities of the CGHS clubs and organizations • Made up of all Vice Presidents from clubs and organizations • StuCo Executive Vice President serves as President

May Meetings and Election of Executive Board • May 3 – Candidate Questionnaire due to Ms. Humphrey • May 6 - Interviews after school in room 8113 – 2:20 • May 7 – General Meeting – 2:20 • BRIEF speeches before the entire Council • Council votes – pencil & paper ballots • May 10 – Ice Cream Social – 2:30 – Commons • E-Board announced • 1st E-Board meeting immediately following Ice Cream Social • May 14 – General Meeting – 2:20 • Executive President chairs meeting!!! • May 16 – Executive Board Meeting – 2:20

  16. Post-Planning Service Hours • Sign up by May 17th on website • 2-hour shifts • Points earned! Extra points for extra shifts

Summer Events • June (TBA) - Leadership Retreat – E-Board only • July 22 - E- Board meeting • July 24 - Lock-In • CGHS MC & Commons • 10:00 – 4:00 • Required for ALL members • E-Board arrives early to set up! Stays late to clean up & plan for 1st General meeting (August 13th) • Plans calendar for entire year!! PLAN HOMECOMING!! • Pre-planning service hours – sign up

Affiliations • GASC – Georgia Association of Student Councils – Convention in February – Rock Eagle, Eatonton, GA – This year’s theme - Literacy • SASC – Southern Association of Student Councils – Convention in Greenville, SC • NASC – National Association of Student Councils – Convention every June after Father’s Day

  19. Fundraisers • Planned and executed by committees • Raise lots of money!!

  20. Homecoming • October 18th • Brookwood • Theme – vote for 3 out of 5 choices at end of August – winner announced September 3rd • Spirit Days • Pep Rally • Election of Court • Powder Puff Football game • Parade • Half-time Show • Dance!!!!!!

  21. Richards & Moore Middle Schools • Establish relationship • Help MS StuCo grow into a strong organization

  22. Costs Involved • Dues - $30 (for Polo & yearly t-shirt) • Ice Cream Socials ($5?) • StuCo Socials (TBD) • Executive Board • Committee • Fun Days (usually $5 – $10) • Conventions (StuCo will TRY to help out the costs through monies earmarked from fundraisers)
