Ethel was my Madame President during my tenure as your Post Commander 2002 – 2003. She was always a great supporter of the Post and the Auxiliary. I’m sorry I had to cancel the Christmas Dinner last month. Your volunteers at the Post who do all the volunteer work are over worked. We have the same people doing all the work to make the Dinners/Parties/Special Events etc. I kept asking for someone to step up and be the Chairman for the Christmas Dinner and no one did. Hence I cancelled it. I sent out letters to 16 people wishing to transfer to the Post. I received 3 replies to bring in their DD-214. The Post donated $200.00 to the Ladies Angel Tree. Countess Guiles and her Scholarship Committee met and voted to award a $500.00 Scholarship to the University of South Alabama for Amy Stevens. January 7th at 10:00am is the Post Oratorical Contest in the Main Hall. Countess Guiles needs volunteers to help with this contest. Please come out to the Post and help us out. Call me for details. Please try to attend these Post functions and volunteer to help. For God and Country Jimmy Lee Martin 1st Vice Commander –Membership is currently at 70%. For those who cared about the American Legion and Post 240’s Aim’s and Purpose’s of the Membership Program and renewed early, the Commander and I are truly grateful. If you have not renewed by Dec 31st , you will be a member in bad standing and lose your rights and privileges to the American Legion. Congrats to Cindy Kronke on winning the Visa Card Giveaway. Thanks to everyone who participated in the Sponsor a Service Member Program. It wasn’t what I was hoping for, but getting 1 new member is better than none. We actually gave away 20 new memberships. Also Cdr Martin awarded an Appreciation Plaque to Tom McKean, owner of Beach Bum Trolleys, for the use of his trolley to transport the service members to the Post for Thanksgiving dinner. On a personal note – Nov/Dec has been a rough time for me and my family, and this also applies to other members of the Post. I love the American Legion family and the concepts that come with it, but we all have to remember the most important family of all is our personal family. There is not greater love and support than that of our families. So if I or any one of the Officers disappear for a few days, remember there is someone bigger than the American Legion. Everyone have a safe Christmas and see you next year. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY.....MOUSE Adjutant - I personally want to thank the following individuals for sponsoring a Service Member.  Cdr Jimmy Martin, Hal & Vi Eyerly, Al & Tina Rogers, Phil & Skeet Gist, Mike Holdener, Marsha Martin, John & Kim Edens,John Mille, Chuck & Becky Krahn, Tom Woley, John Wyers, Jacob & Mary Taffaro,Jim Fournier, Ken & Countess Guiles, William Eastman, Walt Goss, Ladies Auxiliary, Legion Riders and some anonymous donors. The Post, Auxiliary, & Riders gave a nice donation to the Angel tree, a very special Thank you. Hope everyone had a great holiday and New Years. Next meeting is 10 January we really need members to come participate in the meetings. On a sad note I would like to inform you of the passing of Ethel Phillips on the 9th of Dec .I did not have the pleasure of knowing her, but my understanding is she truly loved the Legion & Auxiliary and understood what we all are members for. Madam President Ethel may you rest in peace.. Kim Edens President SAL: Membership is at 47.8%. Please check your SAL Membership card and if it has a 2011 on it, please come into the Post and drop you $24.00 into the SAL Box and I will send back you your 2012 membership card. Jimmy Lee Martin Acting SAL Cdr Bingo: Since I changed the prices of the Bonanza cards we have made a profit off the Bonanzas. We are averaging 69 people each Wed. and still making about $200.00 a week. We turned over $1000.00 to the Post. As I stopped selling the Pull Tabs last month, I turned over the remaining $2813.00 to the Post. Please come out and support the Wednesday night Bingo. Jimmy Lee Martin Bingo Chairman Legion Riders, I would like to thank everyone who participated in the WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA event on the 10th of December. We are starting a New Year and have a lot of things coming up. Start thinking about elections, nominations will begin in March this year.
