Task 1 - General
  • 2 types of description
    • A noun of personal importance
      • Ex. – Describe a place that is important to you.
    • The ideal qualities of a noun
      • Ex. – Describe the qualities of a good parent
  • Expository response – explain and describe
  • Support with details from your own experience and knowledge
  • After you read the question, you have 15 seconds to prepare and 45 seconds to respond

  • The prompt for task 1 is purposefully vague. It is expected that you focus the response yourself.
  • Ex. – Describe a holiday that is important to you.

During this holiday, no one works or goes

to school. I try to relax and also to visit

my family and friends. I always sleep on a

day off. Normally I wake up early for school,

so on this day I sleep longer.

  • My friend Bill is a very tall man and also very funny. He has to buy his clothes at a special store because most stores don’t have his size. Sometimes he even hits his head on the ceiling. Also, he tells a lot of jokes. He makes people laugh and always has funny stories. Bill has a great sense of humor.
  • My friend Bill is important to me because of his patience and generosity. First, Bill is always patient. He almost never gets angry and has saved the day more than once. One time, while we were camping, we had difficulty putting up our tent. Bill never got frustrated and he managed to finish just before the sun set. That was a close call! Also, Bill is very generous. For example, he bought the tent we used to go camping and he never asked me to pay him back. Bill’s qualities make him a great friend and I’ll always want him in my life.
