Unit 3 Employability and Professional Development

HND in Computing and Systems Development

Transcripts

Transcripts

  • The unit content states:

    • Transcripts: maintaining and presenting transcripts including curriculum vitae

  • Objective:

    • Create a current CV

    • Identify areas for improvement

Purpose of a cv

Purpose of a CV

  • A sales brochure for you

  • A marketing document in which you are marketing something: yourself!

  • You need to "sell" your skills, abilities, qualifications and experience to employers

Employers view

Employers view

  • Within seconds an employer knows if the applicant is:

    • Unprofessional

    • Unorganised

    • Clumsy

    • Not serious

    • Has no attention for detail

    • Unemployable

  • Or, that they are the opposite.

Control

Control

  • “The CV is the only step where you have control over the information that you present.

  • In every other step, the employer decides what questions to ask, what information to collect.

  • The CV is your vital opportunity to present yourself at your best.”

    Bright & Earl  Brilliant CV (2001, pg.1)

Work experience

Sept 2011-June 2012 Asda Supermarket Belmont Road, Hereford, HR2 7JE

Worked in a busy team, sometimes under pressure, delivering quality services to customers

June 2010 – May 2011 Waiter, The Swan Inn (Part time)

I was often left in sole charge of the bar and learnt the valuable skill of dealing sensitively but firmly with drunken individuals near closing time

All my work experience has involved working in a team based culture. This involved planning, organisation , coordination and commitment. In retail this ensured daily sales targets were met, tasks were fairly distributed and there was effective team communication.

I organised a competitive computer games LAN party for the three Hereford colleges

Volunteering:

I spend the holidays working to restore sections of track for a preservation railway in France

Skills

I have good conversational French and also hold a full, clean and current driving licence
