  1. Short Session on the Internet Discussions Relating to Quality LinkedIn Groups http://www.linkedin.com/nhome/

  2. Why are manufacturing quality manuals usually 30+ pages long? Quality management principles ~ Leadership Examples of Discussions How can we have a sustainable Quality Management System in the Oil & Gas sector? ISO TS 16949 is responsible for automotive product quality - discuss. Will the National Quality Strategy put ISO 9001 in its place? Defining Quality: does Quality equal Compliance?

  3. David Hoyle Quality management principles ~ Leadership The second QMP in ISO 9000 is about creating a unity of purpose and a quality culture and is labeled as the Leadership principle which states “Leaders establish unity of purpose and direction for the organization. They should create and maintain the internal environment in which people can become fully involved in achieving the organization’s objectives”. Has this principle got the right label and it is it expressed in the right terms or can it be improved?

  4. 15 comments Shaun Sayers •In quality management terms I think Deming explains it as well as anyone http://blog.capablepeople.co.uk/2009/02/deming-on-leadership/ Mike Upstone •Agreed Shaun and the definition given by Deming involves not just unity but constancy of purpose, which is key to long term sustainability. Ian Rosam •Can't disagree with the Deming definition and Mikes comments in that they define the leadership aims / purpose. For me a key element missing is that the strategies that define the leadership activity and therefore the culture these create need to be based on the changing external environment, i.e. the leadership is adaptive. No good having management by consensus if you need hard driver to compete. Could be wrong of course in understanding Deming. My other issue is that the Leadership outcomes should be in the clauses of the Standard rather than as a principle so that they become a requirement - perhaps in the Management Commitment clause.
