  7. First create a Bylaw • BYLAW 1151-07 BEING A BY-LAW OF THE SMOKY LAKE COUNTY IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA TO ESTABLISH A REGIONAL DISASTER SERVICES AGENCY • 3 other Communities within the county did the same.

  8. What does the Bylaw say? • Whereas the Smoky Lake County, Town of Smoky Lake, Village of Vilna and the Village of Waskatenau have agreed to work together through a Regional Disaster Services Agency to carry out emergency preparedness activities

  9. Who is in charge in the event of disaster? • The Director of Disaster Services shall be the DDS from the lead municipality involved in an emergency or disaster and act as director of emergency operations, or ensure that someone is designated under the Regional Emergency Response Plan to so act, on behalf of the Smoky Lake County; and • Co-ordinate all emergency services and other resources used in an emergency.

  10. What is the job of the other DDS ? • All directors of Disaster services will coordinate what jobs need to be done and act as deputy directors to the municipality that is about to or has declared a local state or emergency. As stated in the policy

  11. What resources do the municipalities have • Each participating municipal Council may: • By law, borrow, levy, appropriate and expend, without the consent of the electors, all sums required for the operation of the Regional Municipal Disaster Services Agency;

  12. What do we do next? • Create a plan that was developed by our District officer Bill Boskwick • This policy has the who what where when and why in the event of an emergency. • This plan is not to replace your Municipal Emergency Plan……..
