Concept Development • To subtract means to take away. • The answer to a subtraction problem is called the difference. • To set up subtraction, line up the numbers by place value, with the greater number on top. Example: Mrs. Reyes’ class is collecting soda cans. So far, the class has collected 1,638 cans. Today, Mrs. Reyes sent 254 cans to the recycling plant.
