  1. Assessing MMR Vaccinations as a Factor in Autistic Spectrum Disorder Prevalence Kathy Buckles Allied Health 4060 East Tennessee State University April 24, 2008

  2. According to many recent studies, the frequency of autism (ASD) and other neurological disorders is increasing at a rate disproportionate to population growth. There is a growing consensus that environmental factors must be playing a major role in this emergence. • 1983 USA Autism rate…1 in 10,000 • 2008 USA Autism rate…1 in 150

  4. While this study focused primarily on a particular suspected ASD trigger, the MMR vaccine, one of this study’s aims was to provide further evidence that the rising prevalence of neurodevelopmental disorders can be attributed to certain environmental factors working either independently, or in conjunction with others. The MMR vaccine and thimerosal are just two ingredients that have been injected into our children’s bodies. How many more, as yet unidentified, factors might there be? In order to reverse the escalating rate of autism and return its frequency to, at least previous levels, it is imperative that we work diligently to identify as many triggers as possible and offer alternative solutions for their disuse.
