  2. CD Roms • Most CD Roms hold about 650 MB of data • CD roms can both Read and Write Data • CD Roms are interface to the computer using the ARAPI Interface.

  3. Interface • There are only 2 kinds of CD Roms Today • Read Only • Read and Write CD- Roms • Primarily as internally mounted Drive, but can also be purchased as an external Device. • Some CD Rom drives interface through parallel printer ports.

  4. Speed • Speeds are expressed in terms of 1X, 2X, 4X, which is the number of times the drive is than the standard CD Rom reader. • 40x speed CD Roms can be purchased at low prices. • Read/write CD roms are expressed as 32x, 10x, and 4x.

  5. Other Storage Devices • DVD Stands for Digital Video Disk • Zip Drives – A removable cartridge storage device that may be used to store compressed data as a data back up method • Tape drive backup kits – Their Capacity 3G to 40G.

  6. More About DVDs • DVD-R/authoring – Can record data once • DVD-R/general – can record data once. Capacity is 3.95 Gb or 4.7 Gb. • DVD – Ram – not compatible. 2.58 Gb Storage capacity. Can be rewritten. Hold data for 30 years or more • DVD-RW – 4.7 GB capacity. Rewritten about 1000 times • DVD+RW – became available early 2001
