  • A document which states your experience, skills, qualities, training & qualifications

  • A positive statement about yourself

  • A document to get you to the interview stage of the recruitment process

  • Provides an employer with clear information about you.

  • For speculative applications to potential employers

  • To assist with the completion of application forms

  • As a tool for preparing for interviews

  • Should be neat, clear and typed – maximum 2 pages

  • Check spelling and grammar

  • Summarise skills, qualities and achievements relevant to the specific job you are applying for – make up a different CV for each job

  • Research the requirements for the job

  • Do not lie – lying is fraud

  • Keep a reference copy

  • No stories – short bullet pointed facts – easy to read
