  2. Warm Up February 6, 2019 • What is energy? • What is the difference between matter and energy? • What are two different types of energy that you have learned about in the past? Objectives: 8.P.2.1/2.2 -TSWU how energy can be transformed from one form to another. -TSWU that during an energy transfer, most energy lost is turned into unwanted heat energy. Essential Question: -What are the 6 different forms of energy? -What form of energy is most energy lost to?

  3. What is energy? Energy is the ability to do work. There are six forms of energy: -Mechanical energy -Chemical energy -Nuclear energy -Thermal energy (heat) -Electrical energy -Electromagnetic energy (light) DQ: We learned about the law of conservation of mass. Energy Transfer • Energy can move from one place to another. • For example, when a golfer swings his club and makes contact with the ball, the mechanical energy is transferred from the club to the ball. • A change from one form of energy into another is called energy transformation. • During an energy conversion, energy is often lost in the form of heat. This lost heat is often referred to as unwanted energy. • DQ: Think about times when heat is produced that is unwanted.
