  3. Mission: “The mission of the IPC Global Outreach Program is to engage members of the local community with IPC Global Outreach Speakers in cultural learning exchanges. The program serves as a vehicle to ignite participants’ curiosity to explore other world cultures and to encourage language study, education, travel, or working abroad opportunities. In short, the goal of the IPC Global Outreach Program is to create a global community of connected, aware, and culturally sensitive citizens.” Do Something Bigger Altogether!The IPC Global Outreach Program

Help bring awareness of different cultures and languages to the Greensboro community • Why participate? - Build intercultural skills - Help to inspire children to become global citizens - Engage in dialogue and collaborative learning with students of different cultures - Gain transferable, marketable skills applicable to professional and personal settings **Intercultural competence is a highly marketable quality in today's global job arena** Global Outreach Speaker Role

Commitment to the program: - Time: 10 hours/ semester - Minimum of one semester commitment (preferably two semesters of commitment) • Presentation Duration: 1 hour • Communication about presentation: You will receive an email two weeks before the presentation is due. You have 24 hours to accept the position. • Transportation:School, personal, public Logistics of the program

Accountability:You must attend all presentations that you commit to by email - Failure to attend more than two (2) presentations will result in termination of your position with the program. • First time presenting: MUSTpresent in front of an IPC staff member before presenting for a school! • IPC staff member must have your presentation on file before you present to a school. • Be very polite! Remember that you are representing IPC and UNCG!

  7. Things to consider: - Age level of students a. Elementary School (6- 10 years) Basic information, songs, dances b. Middle School (11- 13 years) Songs, personal stories, discussion of culture c. High School (14- 18 years old) Culture differences between foreign country and United States, how to become global citizens Creating Your Presentation

  8. Things to consider cont’d: • Teacher’s learning goals for the presentation a. You will get this information through email b. Make sure you cover the information that the teacher asks you to cover! • Incorporate active learning! - Songs, dances, chants, educational videos - Discussion questions (older students) - Items from your country: Money, clothes, traditional items(no food!) *Examples of past presentations*

  9. Be engaging! Ask discussion questions, walk around the room, use active learning • Don’t read off of your presentation! • Talk loudly, clearly, slowly • Have good posture, look at the audience, be confident! • Make time for questions from students at the end of the presentation Presentation Skills

  10. Brainstorm for your own presentation, and then share with the group!
