High School Ensembles • Choirs • Concert Choir – A non-auditioned class for any High School student who likes to sing • Participates in the Fall, Winter, and Spring Choir Concerts. • Performs at the Howard County Music Festival • Starlets – An auditioned all-female show choir • Participates in all of the Choir concerts, Howard County Music Festival, and a few outside performances. • Participates in the ISSMA Jazz Contest

  3. High School Ensembles • Choirs (continued) • Encore Singers – This is an audition-based show choir for guys and girls. Emphasis is placed on proper singing and dancing ability. • Performs at all Choir concerts and Howard County Music Festival • Performs at the ISSMA Jazz Contest • Performs throughout the year at other functions throughout the Greentown and Kokomo Area.

High School Ensembles • Orchestra • High School String Orchestra – Is a non-auditioned class for all students wanting to play string instruments in the orchestra • Students perform all types of music from classical to pop. • Chamber Ensemble – This is for more advanced players and for students who are seek to be challenged at an above average level. • ISSMA Solo & Ensemble contest is highly encouraged for all members of this group.

High School Ensembles • Band • High School Band – is a non-auditioned class for anyone would like to participate • Marching Band lasts for the first 2 months of school with performances all over the state. • Students can do marching band and ANY fall sport. • Rehearsals take up less time outside of school than athletic practices. (One evening a week and three mornings with performances on Saturdays.) • 15 State Finals Appearances (recently in 2007, 2009-11) • One semester waiver of P.E. requirement is available.

High School Ensembles • Band (continued) • Concert Band – Starts once Marching Band is over and continues for the rest of the year. • Performs at the Band Winter and Spring concerts • Performs at the Howard County Music Festival • Performs at the ISSMA High School Contest • Take a trip about every two years • Basketball Pep band is part of the concert band • MUST be signed up for both semesters of band

High School Ensembles • Guard (Dance Performance) • An auditioned-based class that is offered in the Fall Semester • Meets the same time as the Marching Band • Performs with the Marching Band • Eastern’s only available dance class • We do accept students with no formal dance experience if we feel that you show promise. • After the fall marching season is over, the guard class continues to meet and the students continue to learn about all different types of dance.

  8. Other Music Classes • Music Theory • Is taught by Mrs. Evenson. • Music Theory looks at how music is put together and the different music-writing techniques • Music History and Appreciation • Is taught by Mr. Matthews. • Music History looks at how music started and how it has changed throughout the last 2000 years. Students do NOT have to be enrolled in another music class to take these courses. They do need to be willing to work hard and learn about music.
