Toes pointed slightly to outside Fit 1. Eyes lower than defenders, get a bite 2. Punch and grab under pectoral pads 3. Lift- snap hips on movement • Finish • 1. ZONE BLOCK • Coaching Points of the ZONE BLOCK • First Two Steps • The initial movement of the lineman begins with two steps. • If a lineman is covered, there is a jab step and a gather step • If a lineman is uncovered, there is a scoop step and a gather step. • The two linemen work the double team looking at the linebacker. If the down lineman works to either Olineman – he takes over block on down linemen and the other Olineman blocks linebacker. • ALWAYS THINK DOUBLE TEAM FIRST – LINEBACKER ON SECOND LEVEL SECOND!   17. THE PASS BLOCKING STANCE STANCE: Feet are arm-pit to shoulder-wide. If moving to the right, weight is on the left foot. Take the inside knee and drive it down. This pivots the foot and puts more weight on that foot. This lets you be light on your step. The Defensive Line may get a read, but they don't know if you're going inside or outside. The right-side linemen take a right handed stance. Most blocks are on a 3 or a 5 technique. Left-side linemen would have a left-handed stance. The outside foot is back. Centers are about parallel. On a 3rd and long, the Tackles would take narrow base. Head and shoulders are kept up and back. Make a C in your back. Remember to keep your head out of the block! Hand Placement is vital. The hands should be slightly middle of chest and belly. Your thumbs should be up and palms should be close. Remember that INSIDE HANDS WIN! When punching the hands should move up and out.

USE 6 INCH STEPS TO MAINTAIN BLOCK…USE POWER STEP VS INSIDE RUSH AND KICK SLIDE VS OUTSIDE RUSH. MAINTAIN A GOOD BASE AT ALL TIMES AND STAY IN YOUR HIPS….. OFFENSIVE LINEMEN ROLL SOFTBALLS IN THEIR HANDS AS THEY DO DRILL.

  24. SWIM The rusher will grab a shoulder and pull, then attempt to bring his opposite arm over the blocker while bringing his off leg past the leg of the blocker to the side of the pull. COUNTER TO SWIM a. First of all, make punch so effective that the defender misses the grab. b. If he gets the grab, the blocker presses hard with the hand to the side of the grab. DON’T ALLOW THAT HAND TO LOSE CONTACT WITH THE DEFENDER. Press with more force than the defender is pulling with. c. As the opposite arm swims over the blocker, the blocker places the hand to that side into the armpit of the swim arm and pushes hard. d. Keep the foot and body moving in the direction of the swim move so the lane to the QB is shut off. RUSH COUNTERS RIP The rusher will rip his upper arm into the opposite arm pit area of the blocker, at the same time, bringing the opposite leg past the leg of the blocker. COUNTER TO RIP a. Clamp and trap the rip arm in the armpit. b. The blocker drops the center of gravity (with the rip arm trapped) to prevent the rusher from completing the rip. c. With the off hand, the blocker pushes on the hip of the rusher to widen him. d. Keep the feet and body moving in the direction of the rip to shut off the rush lane to the QB.

USE SLOW HOP STEPS TO MAINTAIN BLOCK…GIVE GROUND SLOWLY …..DO NOT LEAN ON DEFENDER. AFTER A FEW HOPS DRIVE BLOCK DEFENDER AND FINISH. MAINTAIN A GOOD BASE AT ALL TIMES AND STAY IN YOUR HIPS….. THIS IS ALWAYS VERY VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO BE SUCCESSFUL!
