Postgraduate Studies What? 1- or 2-year Master specialising in EU politics/economics/law or International Relations Erasmus Mundus courses - could potentially lead to study at a number of European universities 3 / 4 years PhD Why? EU exposure practice adding up to theoretical frame Contacts with variety of different stakeholders: new perspectives (i.e. think tanks, policy centres, IOs) Research possibilities in comparative political analysis

Very common way to start career in EU affairs – very helpful in securing further work Opportunity to try out different domains / institutions before committing yourself Opportunity to work in different countries / languages How? Identify your interests and target suitable organisations Where? The list is endless – Kent Brussels Office! EU institutions, consultancies, large firms, NGOs….

Application period 15 March – 15 May Unpaid Traineeship (4 Months) 3 Intakes per year: January, May, September Deadlines: October, February, June Paid Traineeship for People with Disabilities Open to graduates and non-graduates Paid Translation Traineeship (3 Months) Thorough knowledge three EU languages €1,700 per month 4 intakes per year Started studies (Unpaid as part of studies)

Council of the European Union Types of Traineeships Paid traineeships (5 Months) 1,500 applications 90 places 1 February to 30 June / 1 September to 31 January Deadline: 1 June and 31 August Compulsory as part of studies 1 January to 30 June. Deadline 1 October 1 September to 31 December. Deadline 1 May Aimed at new graduates from universities. EU MS National Activities: attend Council meetings, political research
