  1. Classification of β-Blockers: • Non-selective β-blockers: • They block both β1 and β2 receptors • They include propranolol, oxprenolol, pindolol, nadolol, alprenolol, timolol & sotalol.

  2. Selective β-adrenoceptor blockers: • They selectively block β1 receptors. • They include metoprolol, atenolol, esmolol & acebutolol.

  3. Non-selective α- & β-blockers: • Labetalol and carvedilol. • Non-selective β-blockers (3rd generation): • Carteolol and bucindolol. • Selective β-blockers (3rd generation): • Betaxolol, celiprolol and nebivolol. • Selective β2-blockers: • Butoxamine.

  4. β-Blockers with ISA: • Acebutolol, oxprenolol and pindolol. • β-Blockers with membrane-stabilizing activity: • Propranolol, metoprolol & oxprenolol.

  5. Advantages of selective β1-blockers: • Less likely to produce bronchoconstriction????. • Less likely to delay recovery from hypoglycemia ????. • Preferred in patients having peripheral vascular diseases ????. • Advantageous in the treatment of hypertension ????.
