Films on Demand • Films on Demand is a subscription database service that gives users the ability to have access to and organize educational film and documentary clips • It can be used by instructors and students for: • Research/citing in papers • Tutoring • Creating playlists to organize or share information • Supplementing lectures

Getting There • There are a couple of ways to get to Films on Demand from the library’s website at http://library.nnmc.edu • Go to the “Databases” section and click on “List of Databases,” or… • Click on the Quick Links “Databases Login” near the top of the library’s home page and go through EBSCO Discovery • Both ways will be covered on the following slides

  4. Via the “Databases” Section (cont’d) • Click on “Direct Link to the list of all databases” • If you are not logged in already, you will be prompted to authenticate with our proxy server. The login screen looks like the following: • Your username is your 9-digit Banner ID, and your password is your last name. If you have any issues logging in, please email or call us and we will make sure that any issues are remedied.

  6. Via the “Databases” Section (cont’d) • The databases are all listed individually on this page in alphabetical order, so to get to Films on Demand, scroll down to “F” and you should find it easily, as shown below:

  7. Via the “Databases” Section (cont’d) • Click on “Films on Demand” and it will take you to the Films on Demand site via our proxy to ensure that you have access to all content. • Below is the Films on Demand homepage:

Via EBSCO Discovery • EBSCO Discovery is our database search provider, and you can also get to our list of databases via the EBSCO Discovery pages • If you click on “Databases Login” (direct URL is http://libproxy.nnmc.edu:2048/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=ip,uid&profile=eds) in the Quick Links at the top of the library’s homepage, it will take you to the login page and then the EBSCO Discovery homepage (below):

About Films on Demand • Once you are in Films on Demand, you can use the site as a guest, or you can create a personal account for yourself. • As a guest, you will still have access to all of the content, but you will not be able to use some of the extra features or follow direct links to playlists. • Creating a personal account is easy and fast.

  10. Using Films on Demand • Searches are “keyword” by default, and you can enter your search terms in the box at the top of the homepage.

  12. Advanced Search • If you would like more search terms, try clicking on “Advanced Search,” which takes you to the screen below:

  13. Inside an Item Record • When you click on a link to a clip, you are taken to a page that looks similar to this one:

  14. Sign In for the Extra Features • With a personal account, you will be able to: • Save favorites • Create and share playlists • Create folders to organize your favorites, playlists, and clips that interest you

  15. Extra Features • Once signed in, you will see a “User Features” link at the top of the page. If you click on it, a list of available features drops down, including: “My Playlists,” “My Favorites,” and “User Preferences.”

  16. Creating Playlists • You can add, delete, and edit playlists from the “My Playlists” page. • When logged in, click on “User Options” in the top right corner, and then click on “My Playlists.”

  17. Creating Playlists (cont’d) • The “My Playlists” homepage will show you all of your existing playlists with optional organization in the form of folders.

Creating Playlists (cont’d) • You can create a new playlist from the “My Playlists” page, from an individual item page, or directly from the results page. • For example, click on the “+” sign under a result will give you the following dialog box to add the clip to an existing playlist or to create a new one.

  19. Editing a Playlist • When you click on an “Edit Playlist” link next to any of your playlist titles in the “My Playlists” page, it will take you to a page that looks similar to the one at the right, wherein you will have the option to add details to or change the data in any of your playlists

  20. Sharing Playlists • To share a playlist, click on the envelope icon under the URL, or just use the Playlist URL found adjacent to all of the playlists on your “My Playlists” page. • Note: The link recipient must be logged in with their own personal account to follow the link.
