Country report Latvia • No major changes in OHS system as such • New system (new requirements) for external occupational health and safety services – from January 2006 • New legislation on EM fields – coming 2006 • Revision of reporting and diagnosis system of occupational diseases – coming 2006 • Other small changes in legal requirements Maija Eglite

Country report Latvia • New strategy plan for OHS under development – Institute included in working group • Based on that – National action plan will be developed with support from PHARE transition facility project • Experts from institute included in all working groups for legislation development Maija Eglite

Country report Latvia • PHARE Transition Facility project • Hopefully starting december 2005 of January 2006 – for 12 months • FIOH – partners in Activity for developing of Institute of Occupational and Environmental health to National institute of occupational health and safety • Some laboratory and IT equipment will be purchased Maija Eglite

Country report Latvia • Based on the recommendations of project budgetary issues will be discussed in government and hopefully in National institute will be funded from 2007 for: • Information • Trainings • Research and measurements • Expert support to Labor Ministry and State Labor Inspection Maija Eglite

Current problems • Main problems: Financing and consequently – lack resources (everybody already works 10-12 hours/day) • Fixed funding only for training (12 persons) • For national research – 15 000 Euro in 2005 (2 projects) • Partners in several other small international projects (Workplace health promotion etc.) – small amounts Maija Eglite

  7. Current problems • No funding for information activities • Participation in expert groups – not paid • Support to PHARE project – not paid • If we got no state budget from 2007 – there will be serious problems (staff leaving etc.) Maija Eglite
