Security Cooperation in regard to Civil Emergency Planning Background • Government policy to promote stability and prevent conflict through the use of resources under the Ministry of Defence • DEMA requested to assist with projects in the field of Civil Emergency Planning • “cheaper than sending peacekeeping troops” www.brs.dk

  4. Security Cooperation in regard to Civil Emergency Planning Aim • To assist in the establishment of credible democratic structures, • To stimulate international cooperation in non-controversial areas • To facilitate adherence to EU standards www.brs.dk

Security Cooperation in regard to Civil Emergency Planning Status • Albania • Project on monitoring levels of radioactivity in drinking water, technical advice provided by RISØ research facility (Denmark’s Technical University) • MOU signed in 2007. Training conducted in Denmark. Vehicle purchased. Purchase of materials under way. Project to be finished in 2009. www.brs.dk

  6. Security Cooperation in regard to Civil Emergency Planning Status • Bosnia and Herzegovina • MOU concluded in 2006 with Ministry of Security. IT support and vehicle procured for MoS. Assistance provided in response to request in connection with forest fires. • Further assistance dependent upon provision of legislative basis. www.brs.dk

Security Cooperation in regard to Civil Emergency Planning Status • Bosnia and Herzegovina • Funded participation of Red Cross team from BiH in exercise IDASSA in Croatia in 2007. • Funding English language course for staff • In 2008, will contribute to installation of command centre and 112-alarm centre
