  8. Time to Celebrate • Last Years Results- significant improvement • Identify areas of strengths and weaknesses • Build on these skills in QCP/QCN • Being the best you can be

  9. Welcome • Your attendance tonight is appreciated. • Purpose to explain and demystify, set goals and move ahead. • QCE, OP and QCS.

  10. Who gets what? • QCE is for everybody, expected by the end of Year 12 (100% Target) • OP (group = 40%) is for University entry • Vocational (60%) is for work/training

  11. QCE – Qld. Cert of Education • 20 credits (each semester of study = 1 point) • 12 credits from core courses (3 subjects minimum) • Pass required for credit • Literacy and Numeracy requirement • Other qualifications Cert I (2), II (4), III(8) • Expectation at this school that 100% achieve by end of Year 12.

  12. Rules of a QCE • Must gain 20 credits from passing subjects. • Must meet Core and complete core. • Must pass Literacy and Numeracy requirements. • Pass is the same credits no matter how well you pass.

  13. Example 1 Standard Course QCE Awarded

  14. Example 2 Failed English QCE NOT Awarded

  15. Example 3 Core. QCE NOT Awarded

  16. Example 3 VET students QCE QCE Awarded

  17. Bottom Line!! • Must have a least a Sound Achievement ( C) level – pass for credits • Other learning can count! (Your HOSS can help support you with pathways questions) • All timetables support QCE achievement

  18. WHAT IS AN OP? • Only used for University entry • A number between 1-25 issued at the end of Year 12 to students who are OP eligible. • OP eligible means they have studied a minimum of 20 semesters of OP subjects (usually 5 out of 6) over 2 years AND sat the Queensland Core Skills test. (QCS).

  19. HOW IS THE OP CALCULATED? A combination of • Student final grades in their OP subjects and then • Scaled against subject scores on the QCS test and then • Scaled against the overall average grade for our school on the QCS test compared with the average grade for the state. • School MUST have a good result on the QCS test to improve OPs.

  20. Rank Orders • Mostly important for OP students, less so for “QCE only” students. • Produced every semester by Faculties. • Shows the relative distribution of student achievement. • Students must check and understand. • Teacher feedback provided.

  21. Issuing Indicative OPs • School issues these several times over 2 years of senior. • Sophisticated calculation, not final prediction. • Powerful data, students clamour for this feedback. Assists in decisions for QTAC and the general direction. • We get this 100% accurate each year.

  22. WHY QCS? • We have a QCS information night in Term 2 • QCS is about the COHORT – all students need to achieve well • Students must treat QCP as their 7th subject

  23. WHEN IS IT ON? 2019

  24. FACT • The highest OP attained by a student who only achieved Cs across all 6 subjects was 14. CONCLUSION • A passing culture is not good enough among the OP cohort. • The standard for every student who is OP eligible must be B. • You are being compared to all OP eligible students in the State

  25. Post Secondary School University / TAFE Diploma or Cert IV TAFE Certificate or Apprenticeship Full Time Work GAP Year (with career options) Actively pursuing pathways NOT waiting for someone to call me to offer me a place or a job

  29. Scholarships!!!! • Check individual university websites • Check the QTAC website www.qtac.edu.au • No cost to apply • Apply early – have resumes ready and references completed • Academic, equity, commonwealth, priority

  30. WHAT IS QTAC? • The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) handles the tertiary application process for all Queensland and northern NSW universities, TAFE Queensland institutes and selected colleges. • QTAC also publishes information for about courses, OP cut offs and institutions.

  31. WHAT CAN I FIND IN THE QTAC GUIDE?
