  2. Preparing to Apply 1. Finalizing Prospective College List - Visiting Colleges - College Fair (@ Bishop Ludden, Wednesday, September 28th, 2011 – 6:30-8:30pm) - College Visits to Baker 2. Senior Seminar - Tuesday, September 20 & 27 - Individual Meetings

  3. Preparing to Apply 3. Transcripts - unofficial copy at Senior Seminar - rank and GPA (weighted and unweighted) available by Columbus Day 4. Letters of Recommendation - 1 teacher recommendation (additional letters only if needed) - Request form from CRC (FERPA waiver) - Request in Person - Thank you note

  4. Preparing to Apply 5. College Essay - Personalize application - Find question online - Draft/Proofread - Copy to counselor 6. SAT/ACT scores - send official scores to college (NCAA)

  5. Common Application • Intended to streamline the college application process • 463 college campuses, including 20 SUNY campuses accept the Common Application • 3 distinct submissions (Application, Supplemental, Payment)

Completing SUNY Applications SUNY schools strongly encourage that students complete applications online at www.suny.edu $50 per school – cash not accepted/fee waivers available for financially eligible students Go directly to college website for 2 Year SUNY schools (OCC, Monroe, etc). Applications are often free.

  9. Completing SUNY Applications NEW: SUNY ONLINE ACADEMIC RECORD (SOAR) 3 Part Process: Online Application + SOAR + Counselor Form

Career Resource Center • All transcript, recommendation, fax requests, scholarship applications and NCAA transcript requests are processed here • Envelopes and Postage: A thing of the past? • Students/parents can utilize the CRC staff for assistance with questions • Wendy Hamm & Sandy Lamb – 638-6149 • Hours – 7:15 – 2:30

  12. Deadlines • We encourage students to beat rather than meet deadlines. (15 working days for the guidance office) • Target deadline date: Thanksgiving • Procrastinators beware!

Tips and Reminders • Read and Follow All Directions • Create a list of USER IDS and Passwords • Use Full Legal Name • Plan to Beat Deadlines • Students should be in charge of their application • Ensure all required parts and materials are submitted • Read all correspondence from colleges • Proofread/Preview Application and Essays • Submit Only What Is Requested (some exceptions apply)
