  1. NALC “Stamp Out Hunger” National Food Drive Service Project Kelsey Clarke

  2. “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive • This food drive sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) is the outgrowth of a tradition of community service exhibited repeatedly by members of the letter carriers union over the years • Beginning in 1993 on a day in May, every year the NALC has not only delivered the mail for the day but also picked up donations of food for the needy

  3. Food Drive • The food that the mail carriers collect is then dropped off at local churches and other facilities to be sorted • Each year, my lacrosse team would volunteer at a local church in Vienna, VA that participated in the NALC “Stamp out Hunger” National Food Drive • At the church, my teammates and I would sort the food that the mail trucks had collected for the day

  4. Food Bank Cont. • Much of the food people donated had already expired so we were required to check the expiration date before we sorted the item • We sorted the food into categories including: beans, pasta, breakfast, tomato, baking goods, soup, and more • It was always a long process but very rewarding in the end to know we were doing something to help people that were less fortunate
