Conference Publications: Goals • Improve policy and decisions made in respect to overall conference business lifecycle: closing surplus without penalties, publication net, and CSDL / Xplore net • Help conference organizers plan and execute successful conferences as measured by authors, attendees, quality papers, relevant papers, financial surplus, and quality publications • Increase Conference Publishing Services (CPS) usage by CS sponsored conferences • Help inexperienced conference organizers to complete new conferences with quality publications • Improve IEEE brand with plagiarism controls supported by sponsoring technical committees January, 2010 CS Planning Committee Meeting

Conference Publications: Measurable Benefits • Improved conferences’ attendee satisfaction due to timely, high quality proceedings • Improved conference business net due to increase CPS usage • Reduce interval from Call for Papers due date to proceedings availability to Xplore availability to accurate metadata and Indexing visibility • Improved Xplore net without IEEE Acquisition Payments • raise the bar on Conference net January, 2010 CS Planning Committee Meeting

Conference Publications: Timeline • 14-Jan T & C Vice-Chairs agreed to support project • Feb-May Recruit Volunteers, assign CS Staff, collect & analyze data and prepare report • Mar CPOC Chair appointed • Mar CPS plans for sponsored conferences acquisitions • Mar-Apr CS communicate opt out of IEEE Acquisition Payments to both IEEE staff and conference organizers • Mar-Apr Draft and pilot TC role in plagiarism process • 15-May Agenda report to BoG • 8-Jun CAC and CPOC F2F w/ BoG meeting series • 17-Nov Report to CS BOG on progress of changes to PPM January, 2010 CS Planning Committee Meeting

Background details • PPM change to move CPOC into T & C as 4th Committee • recruit CPOC Chair • add liaison to Pubs Board • Encourage all TCs to add to their ExCom a standing appeals committee to investigate issues such as plagiarism • Need to move all 100% financial sponsor conferences into CPS usage • Acquisition Payment transition program can use payment for CPS • Need to move non-IEEE conferences publications into TCS conferences for Xplore availability January, 2010 CS Planning Committee Meeting
