A study of the basic concepts of town and urban planning; of the idea of health and place as a public health concern; disciplinary perspectives; international interest; migration; and finally policies related to housing, recreation and welfare, pollution and waste management, and health services.

General module format • The general format this first week will include an introduction to the course, lecture material, discussion of readings, and development of a project. • The general format for successive modules will include readings, a weekly online discussion using Elluminate, and occasional assignments. During the last week of each module, each group will present on their progress regarding their research topic.

  8. Module 1: 10-14 March • Introduction to the course • Introduction to each other • Groups • Lecture • Discussions • What is urbanicity? • What is the meaning of place in terms of health?
