  1. Dear Mr. President,Come take a walk with me.Let's pretend we're just two people andYou're not better than me.I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly. What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep? What do you feel when you look in the mirror? Are you proud? How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye? How do you walk with your head held high? Can you even look me in the eyeAnd tell me why? Dear Mr. President,Were you a lonely boy?Are you a lonely boy?Are you a lonely boy?How can you sayNo child is left behind? We're not dumb and we're not blind. They're all sitting in your cellsWhile you pave the road to hell. What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away? And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?I can only imagine what the first lady has to sayYou've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine. How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye? How do you walk with your head held high? Can you even look me in the eye? Hard workHard workOhHow do you sleep at night? How do you walk with your head held high? 2. Dear Mr. President • Pink had written and produced this song along with Billy Mann. • It features the Indigo Girls. • It was released on December 21, 2006. • This song (unlike strange fruit) is very straight forward. It addresses the issues sharply. • It has really strong messages that are “in your face”, making it hard to ignore them. • (This song has not been re-made/used)

  3. Issue Being Highlighted • Pink said that this song is an “open letter” for the former president of the United States, George W. Bush. • She also said that it is “one of the most important songs I’ve ever written”. • This song was directing mainly the Iraq War, which Bush was supporting but also Bush’s former drug and alcohol issues, anti-abortion and anti-gay laws.

  5. The Iraq War • After 9-11 the U.S. government showed evidence to the UN that Iraq, as a nation, was building a nuclear bomb and was behind this attack. • Further, the U.S. government believed that other attacks were eminent, hence invaded Iraq starting the war. • The reason why this war was protested was because there was no real evidence that Iraq caused 9-11 and was building nuclear bombs.

  6. Analyzing the text “How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye? How do you walk with your head held high? Can you even look me in the eyeAnd tell me why?” • That line is saying how can he be so comfortable while so many other people are suffering due to his unnecessary actions. • That line is referring to how so many innocent children were killed and how their mothers were left behind without even saying “Goodbye” to their children. • In those lines Pink is basically asking Bush if he is proud of what he has done, if he can live with that burden and weight on his shoulders for the rest of his life. Knowing that he has caused the death of thousands of innocent children, women and men.

  7. Why PINK? • I chose to do this song by Pink because it had a huge effect over many people. • It is one of the first and only song about Bush and his doings. • I liked how it was written like a letter towards Bush. • It changed my perception on Pink as an artist. • I wanted a song that was really straight forward.
