  4. INTERVIEW • We collected data from interviews in our groups. • We collected information from the 1st year performing arts students. Will there only be 10 of you taking part in the production of fame? No there will be roughly 25 1st and 2nd years Have you got any ideas on what the musical is about? A performing arts school in America in the 1980’s, where young people want to achieve their dreams. Romance as well between two characters. What is jazz dance? Jazz dance which is flashy, energetic and fast paced (upbeat). Are you family and friends attending the performance? Yes a lot of family and friends will be coming along How much are the tickets going to cost? No ticket price set What is the theme of the musical? It involves bright colours but they are not hippy style.

INTERNET SchlomoMetzenbaum - A quiet, saintly classical violinist Carmen Diaz - She is a dancer, confident and determined to make it big Tyrone Jackson - He is a hip hop dancer who is "talented but dyslexic" and comes from a poor family. Nick Piazza - A serious classical actor. Serena Katz - A "shy" actress . Mabel Washington- A dancer and singer, she is overweight and trying to lose weight "but can't resist food." Iris Kelly - A talented ballet dancer who is believed to be extremely wealthy. Grace 'Lambchops' Lamb - A "rock chick and tomboy", the drummer for Schlomo's band. Does not take school "seriously." José 'Joe' Vegas - Spanish acting student who is the comic of the show. Develops an unreturned crush on Carmen. Goodman 'Goody' King - A trumpet/saxophone musician who is in Schlomo's band. Miss Esther Sherman - A strict, old-fashioned and academic English teacher who loves her students despite the fact that she comes down hard on them. Ms. Greta Bell - A dance teacher who likes different styles of dance and is "protective" of the students. Mr. Myers - The drama teacher. Mr. Sheinkopf - European Music tutor who loves classical music but does not like "rock and roll." • It is set in 1980. • Fame is a musical production. • It is about students who audition and make the famous performing arts school.

  8. OBSERVATION • On the 28th April we went across to the dance studio where we watched the performing arts students perform the opening to fame. A selected handful of students went over and we were all gobsmacked. They performed the first few songs and it was amazing. • We also attended another performance of fame on the 12th May. It was again another mind-blowing performance. • It gave us a great understanding on what Fame the musical is about.
