  1. Developing Tier 4 Sponsorship for Dental Foundation Training Spring 2010

  2. UKBA Tier 4 Arrangements * Approx 50 dental graduates per annum ie 2-4 per deanery • Tier 4 permits Non-EEA, overseas doctors and dentists* who are graduates of a UK Medical or Dental School to undertake foundation training (and ST) • These graduates are already on Tier 4 while undergraduates, but University sponsorship ceases in October following Summer graduation • Specialty training for these FDs likely to be Tier 1 PSW • UKFPO (Cardiff) is Tier 4 sponsor for Medicine • Currently no sponsor for Dentistry

  3. UKBA process • UKBA requires reassurance that Tier 4 trainees take up DF1 or DF2 posts • Those responsible for DFT supervision in DF1 or 2 must report to sponsor any unapproved absence exceeding 10 days • Sponsor records all demographic/contact details of Tier 4 trainees, including start and finish dates • Employing Trusts/Deaneries must have processes in place to provide exception reporting

  4. Tier 4 application process • Trainee submits application form and original docs to deanery for checking • Local deanery forwards application and copies of docs to Tier 4 Sponsor • Sponsor enters trainee details onto UKBA sponsor online management system • UKBA system generates CAS* reference number • Sponsor assigns number to trainee • Trainee uses number to apply for Tier 4 visa * CAS = Confirmation of Acceptance

  5. Information required by Tier 4 Sponsor Passport number, issue date, place issued, expiry UK Identity card number National Insurance number Dental School – date of graduation GDC number type of registration (Full/Temp) Nationality Demographic and contact details Placement start and finish date Name of Educational Supervisor and Trust/unit Deanery and TPD

  6. Tier 4 monitoring 1 Deaneries & DF1 TPDs/Trainers will manage DF1 Hospital Trusts already familiar with medical FY1/2 Medicine uses FY TPDs to monitor process with HR In Dentistry, most Trusts don’t have dedicated DFT TPDs and Deaneries have variable numbers or none DF2 supervisors will need to monitor attendance of Tier 4 trainees and alert HR and Deanery of absence

  7. Tier 4 monitoring 2 Deanery confirms with unit/supervisor that trainee has attended first day Non attendance notified to UKBA Deanery (unit) monitors trainee attendance and notifies sponsor in event of 10 consecutive days of unapproved absence Tier 4 sponsor notifies non attendance to UKBA Deanery/unit monitors trainees’ residency status at regular (2 wk) intervals by checking passport Tier 4 sponsor notifies change of residency to UKBA Deanery notifies sponsor of any significant changes to trainees’ details ie name, address, unit/Trust Tier 4 sponsor logs changes with UKBA
