  2. Do Now: In your mind, what does it mean to “cheat” on a spouse or partner? Kissing? Hand holding? Sharing emotional intimacy? Why do you think people in general cheat? Do you think Ethan will cheat? Is he considering it? Why? Learning Target: Analyze symbolism

  3. Symbolism: in literature when an object or things represents a bigger idea.

  4. As you read Highlight any mention of the cat. Highlight any mention of coasting.

  5. Journal Entry: Select a symbol from the novel, the winery landscape, the cat, the broken pickle dish the coasting. Explain what that symbol means and explain how you think it will connect to the overall theme of the text Criteria: Full page, Use Axes model and include evidence from the text.

  6. English Lab 12/6 Do Now: Write a sentence using each word: Taciturn- avoiding speech, anti-social Tenuous – weak Rancorous- long standing resentment, hatefull Learning Target: analyze symbolism in short story.

  7. Reader response: Describe something you find interesting about your book. Why do you think the auhor included it?
