  4. We expect our athletes to be good citizens. Athletes must be credible citizens both in school and out of school. If you are found to be in violation of this policy you may forfeit the privilege to compete. Citizenship MSHSAA By-Law 212-c • Each student is responsible to notify the school of any and all situations that would affect his/her eligibility under the above standards. If the student does not notify the school of the situation prior to the school discovery, then the student shall be ineligible for up to 365 days from discovery, pending review by the Board of Directors.

  5. Eligibility Requirements High School Students must be enrolled in 8 of the possible 9 classes and must have passed 8 classes the previous semester to be eligible.

  6. Chain of Command Each of our athletes will receive a chain of command pamphlet from their coach. Please review it with your student so we are all on the same page. We encourage our athletes to be proactive and talk to their coach if they have concerns.

  7. College Recruiting • Many parents and athletes are under the impression that colleges will find their son or daughter because they are outstanding athletes. This is not always the case. • Athletes- If you are interested in playing sports in college you need to notify your coach and your counselor so they can help you. • If you are interested in playing NCAA Division I or II or NAIA you must register for the level you intend on playing. If you don’t know the level, you will want to register for both. Your counselor or I can help you with this process. You can find the links on the “Resource Page”. • Be Proactive- Send letters out to schools that you have interest in.

  8. Non-School Competition • Same Sport, Same Season A student shall neither practice nor compete in organized non-school competition in that same sport. Except in the fall where athletes can continue with their non-school teams until the Tuesday after Labor Day. • Different Sport, Same Season Athletes can participate in another sport during their season, but may not miss scheduled practices or games to do so without administrative approval. Note: During the school golf or tennis season, a student may, after fulfilling all requirements, practices and competitions of the school team, compete as an individual participant in two (2) organized non-school competitions.

  9. Transfer Students Transfers to Troy Buchanan High School Any students that transferred to the Troy School District within the last 356 days need to see the activities director to fill out the necessary transfer information. Transfers due to promotion are automatically eligible. Transfer from Troy Buchanan High School It is very important to see me if you are thinking about transferring to another school without your family making a full and complete move.

  10. Handbook Each athlete will receive an athletic handbook from their coach. Please make yourself familiar with all of the policies within. On the last page there is a form for the parent and athlete to sign. Your signature gives consent for the Random Drug Testing Program and acknowledges that you have read the handbook. Each month 5% of our athletes will be randomly selected.
