Transportation Ad-Hoc Committee From 2011 AGM: “…moved that a Transportation / Development committee be established with appropriate sub-committees to develop a plan of action that addresses concerns of the community and that reports to the Board on a monthly basis, existing for one year, to be reviewed at the 2012 AGM. Activities will include surveying other groups and community leagues, and the Committee will plan, investigate and make recommendations to the Board…”

The BQCL Mission Statement The Blue Quill Community League strives to provide a sense of community, and to enhance the quality of life in the greater Blue Quill Community, by providing: facilities for community use; excellent social, recreational and cultural programs; and focussed advocacy efforts.

Our Community League Founded in 1979 Hall facility was built in 1982 Number of Residents: 10,447 Number of homes: 4,835 • Blue Quill: 4,568 (2,042 homes) • Blue Quill Estates: 1,296 (565 homes) • Skyrattler: 1,947 (1,172 homes) • Sweet Grass: 2,636 (1,056 homes) * 2012 City of Edmonton Neighborhood Census (as found on City of Edmonton web site at http://www.edmonton.ca)

  29. Year in Review – Executive • Between revenue and expenses, our cash flow this year was close to $450,000 Community league is a business…

Year in Review – Civics Director: Neil Dunwald • Formed ad-hoc and SWAC transportation/development committees • Campaigned for Restricted Residential Parking • Launched BQ online Forum • Organized Public Meeting on school sites within Blue Quill CL boundaries • Organized Public All Candidate Forum for provincial candidates

Year in Review – Civics Director: Neil Dunwald • Designed, distributed and completed Community Survey Program - 423 respondents • Persuaded City to review its plans for Skyrattler Park • Helped change city philosophy wrt On-Street Cycle Paths • Participated in 2 day Public Hearing wrt developments on Blue Quill Park • Negotiated a motion before City Council to move the proposed FTHB site to north site of Blue Quill Park

Year in Review – Facilities Director: Judy Moschuk Interior developments: • Routine HVAC & fire safety systems maintenance • 240V outlet for stove in basement • New thermostats installed • Lights fixed, new elec outlets installed • Laminate flooring installed in loft • Small dance studio floor was refinished • Relocated fire bell in basement

  33. Year in Review – Facilities Director: Judy Moschuk Interior developments (cont’d): • Repaired interior door locks • Installed shelving in the electrical room • Replaced refrigerator in kitchen • Renovated the BQCL office with carpeting, paint, new furniture

Year in Review – Fundraising • Director: VACANT • We had no one in this role, which made it challenging to stay on top of grants • Managed to get applications in for: • 2011 City Operating Grant • 2012 City Operating Grant • 2012 Community League Infrastructure Grant • 2012 Canada Summer Jobs • Casino was held May 10 & 11, 2012: • Thank you to all volunteers • We received $76,713.59

Year in Review – Membership Director: Sandra Higgins • We sold 317 memberships • 281 Family memberships • 23 Single memberships • 13 Senior memberships • We had a membership table at the Indoor Soccer registrations at Yellowbird Hall during their two-day event. We also had a membership table at the Southwest Farmers Market on two separate occasions this past summer. • Gathered over 100 volunteers for various Blue Quill events during the year, including two casinos

Year in Review – Programs Independently run programs at BQCL: • Blue Quill 166 Scouts • Edmonton Area Girl Guides of Canada • Blue Quill Playschool • Enjoy Life Church Community Health & Wellness: • Community League Swim on Saturdays and Sundays at Confederation Pool – 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Show your membership card! • Discounts on City of Edmonton recreational multi-use and annual passes

Year in Review – Programs Seniors • Held a meeting with local seniors • Attended meetings for the southwest seniors’ center development • We’ve tried to get a defined Blue Quill senior’s representative • Liaison between our community league, SWESA and other southwest area seniors’ groups • Please let us know if you are a senior and interested in getting involved

  42. Year in Review – Programs Worked towards getting other programs going: • Personal life coaching • Financial advice • Parent-tot hoops-ercise • Bollyrobics We are open to trying new programs • More information on the desires of our community is required

  43. Director: FeliceBassie Worked closely with the Webmaster to maintain the website, adding submitted articles and removing those expired Submitted articles, news and events to the Community Views for each of the 10 printed issues each year Year in Review – Publicity

Director: FeliceBassie Changed the outdoor sign at the entrance to the parking lot with details on current events Second permanent sign is on 119 Street and is maintained by a community volunteer Thank you to Jeff Rauch! Responded to all emails of people looking to publicize their news/events/businesses Assisted in planning and organization of league’s social events Year in Review – Publicity
