  4. CHARACTERISTICS • Digital Counter Parts of Traditional Libraries • Includes Electronic and Printed Material • Not Just a Pointer to Information Resources • Quick and Efficient Access

FUNCTIONS OF THE LIBRARY • To provide material to supplement and enrich instructions and guidance given in the class room • To acquire and display books and periodicals to satisfy the varying demands and interests of the students. • To educate and train the students in the effective use of books and libraries as source of information. • To prepare the way for the use of large libraries, including the public libraries in adult life.

  6. PROBLEMS OF PRESENT LIBRARY • The size of the library building is fixed. • No provision for extension of the room. • Each Shelf accommodates around 300 books. • If we want to accommodate 10000 books, we need 30 Shelves, which themselves occupy half of the library hall

  7. SOLUTION • Store data in electronic form. • Storing 200 pages book in electronic form needs around 800KB memory. So storing 10,000 books ,computer needs around 8GB. Now a days every computer is provided with huge amount of memory in GB’s

  8. ADVANTAGES • Books can be accessed easily and rapidly • Stores much more information in very little space. • The amount of money spent on digital libraries is very less. • Users need not go to library. This can be access through internet . Information is available round the clock.

  9. ADVANTAGES 5.The same information can be used simultaneously by a number of users. 6. Digital libraries are user friendly, giving clickable access to its resources. 7. Preservation and conservation is very easy. • Digitalization enhances quality of imaged and legibility.

  10. SALUTION TO PROBLEMS HOW TO READ A BOOK FROM THE COMPUTER: The best solution for this is n-computing, . HOW TO REDUCE THE PHYSICAL FORM OF BOOK: • All NCERT text books can be downloaded and kept in e-form. • Most of the children story books are available in the websites for free download. They can be downloaded. • Most of the Hindi and English novels are available in e form. • Every year we can download CBSE curriculum. • Most of the magazines and periodicals are available in e form. They can be subscribed., • E-Newspaper can also be subscribed
