Outcomes for Today • Increase awareness of the language and landscape of current social media • Understand roles and responsibilities for responding to bullying/cyberbullying issues that impact the school environment • Reflect on response to reporting and investigation practices using shared scenarios • Review school climate and bullying data • Increase awareness of HCPSS expectations

  6. Expectations Systemwide use of the State Reporting Form to establish accurate baseline data for reporting bullying at each school.   7. Bullying Intentional conduct, including verbal, physical, or written conduct, or an intentional electronic communication

  8. that creates a hostile educational environment

  9. by substantially interfering with a student’s or staff member’s educational benefits, opportunities, or performance, or with their physical or psychological well-being and is:

  10. motivated by an actual or a perceived personal characteristic including race, national origin, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, ancestry, physical attributes, socioeconomic status, familial status, or physical or mental ability or disability; or, threatening or seriously intimidating; and,

  11. occurs on school property, at a school activity or event, or on a school bus; or, substantially disrupts the orderly operation of a school or workplace.

  12. Harassment A sufficiently severe action or persistent, pervasive pattern of actions or statements, directed at an identifiable individual or group, that is intended to be, or which a reasonable person would perceive as, ridiculing or demeaning.

  13. Intimidation Subjection to intentional action that seriously threatens and induces a sense of fear and/or inferiority which adversely affects one’s ability to participate in or benefit from the educational or work setting.

  14. Cyberbullying Harassing, humiliating, intimidating, and/or threatening others on the Internet or via cell phones and other electronic communication(e.g., emails, web pages, instant messaging).

  15. When Administrators Must Intervene • “creates a hostile educational environment by substantially interfering with a student’s or staff member’s educational benefits, opportunities, or performance, or with their physical or psychological well-being” (Policy 1060) • Substantially disrupts the orderly operation of a school or workplace. (Policy 1060) • Utilizes school-owned technology (Policy 3040)
