  2. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

  3. To be promoted to 10th grade, Students must have 6 credits, one of which is English I. ATTENDANCE COUNTS! Students automatically fail a course after 8 absences of any kind in a single class period. Course Load: Students must carry a course load equal to number of instructional periods in school day (4/semester). 4x4 PROMOTION

  4. 1ST SEMESTER Math I World History Health/PE Elective 2ND SEMESTER English I Earth Science Elective Elective Sample BLOCK SCHEDULE This is just an example. This is not the exact schedule your student will receive.

  5. Required Classes • English I (Honors Available) • Math I (Honors Available) Math II (Honors Available) Math III (Honors Available) • Earth/Environmental Science (Honors Available) • World History (Honors Available) • Health & PE • 3 Electives (one MUST be in school selected)

  6. Selecting ITL or HLS • Principal Kathy Fuerst, Integrated Technology & Leadership • Principal Lisa Tusa, Health & Life Sciences

  7. Selecting Electives • One elective must be in the school student selected • For HLS students, Health Team Relationships or AgriscienceApplications • For ITL students, MSITA, Marketing, Principles of Business, Drafting I*, Auto I* * Please make sure you are comfortable with the alternate electives you choose since preference for these courses will be given to upperclassmen.

Other Freshman Electives • Band (Jazz, Concert, Marching, Guitar) • Chorus (Regular, Viking Voices) • Visual Art • Theatre Arts • Advanced Physical Education • Strength & Conditioning • Journalism • Media Assistant • JROTC Please remember … sign up for alternates you like. You may not get your first choice.

Online Courses • Students register in Course Planner andon Granville Online page • Submit signed parent/guardian permission form (see GO page or counselor) • Must be willing to commit to at least 90 minutes per day, studying on own, and pacing self • GO catalog, registration: http://www.gcs.k12.nc.us/Page/10978

  10. Driver’s Education • Presentation coming to middle schools soon • 2-week courses (Spring, Fall); 3:45 – 6:30 p.m. daily • Driving portion not until SGHS student • Questions: lindseyj@gcs.k12.nc.us

  11. Athletics • Ninth graders are eligible to play any sport (cross country, football, tennis, soccer, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, track) • Must have updated physicals • Questions: colgandl@gcs.k12.nc.us

  13. The Best Welcome Party Ever! • LINK CREW (11th, 12th grade leaders) host orientation just before school starts • Will receive letter at end of year • Will receive personal phone call just before • Fun activities with meaning and purpose to learn what every freshman should know
