The position of RG chair is an important one with serious responsibilities People were accepting the position without understanding what was expected of them A recipe for disaster with the potential to waste time, money, goodwill Need to bring new chairs up to speed quickly Important due to growing list of responsibilities: Managing RG budgets Formal study descriptions Website content management Rational for the Orientation:

  4. Identifying potential RG candidates a) Asking the EB, other Chairs and ABRF members for advice. b) Posting a note on the ABRF listserver. c) Placing a note in JBT. d) Asking the ABRF Business Office to send an email. e) Adding a note on the ABRF web page. f) ABRF meeting!

  5. Steps for inviting someone to join your RG Provide them with a copy of the RG Mission Statement and Guidelines so they have a good understanding of the function of your RG. b) Tell them that they must be approved by the EB before joining. c) Ask them for an electronic copy of their CV or other summary of experience and a statement of why they want to join your RG. Tell them this info will be forwarded to the EB. d) Provide them with a Conflict of Interest form. e) Once approved, add them to your RG web page. 3 years is the suggested term for RG service. Get new blood!

  6. Conflict of Interest (COI) a) Submit a COI form (obtained from the Chair) to the President. b) Members and associates of the ABRF with COI may, in some cases, serve on RG if those conflicts are fully disclosed to the President. c) No member should endorse any product, instrument, or commercial concern that can be construed to be involved in the RG’s area of research generally or which played some part in the RG’s study. Avoid the appearance of COI

  7. Team Leader Organizes the groups efforts. Sets the agenda. Guides the discussion and ensures all points of view are heard. Maneuvers the group towards consensus and determines when consensus has been reached. Minutes from conference calls are strongly encouraged. Responsible for the organization, analysis and completion of the study, including publication. Encourage RG participation in ABRF meeting RG presentation, Tutorial, Round table,Scientific Session, Meeting Organizer Duties of RG Chair:

  9. Manage financial resources of the Group Standard budget Conference calls Mailings Printing Supplemental budget Chemicals/consumables External meetings Meeting budget Manage website content Duties of RG Chair

  10. Must interact with the rest of the ABRF The EB Other RGs Various standing committees Meeting organizers Business office JBT The RG Chair manages these interactions, thereby ensuring efficient communication RGs are not totally independent:
