  3. Ms. Meyer • Born and raised in House Springs, MO (AKA 30 minutes south of St. Louis) • 1st Generation College Student • Graduated from University of Missouri in May 2014 • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology • Bachelor of Arts in Sociology • Multicultural Certificate

  4. IN MISSOURI: 40 advisers- • 14 advisers here in the Kansas City area! • OUR MISSION: Increase the number of first-generation college going, low-income, and/or underrepresented students who APPLY, ENTER, and COMPLETE college!

  5. What can I do for you!? I CAN HELP WITH: • Researching colleges and/or majors! • College Apps! • ACT Registration! • Taking you on College Tours and Providing Rep Visits! • FAFSA! • Scholarships I CANNOT HELP WITH: • Deciding your future for you. • Getting you out of classes you do not like. • Writing passes when you are running late to class. Sorry. Not Sorry.

  10. We want to find your best fit school! What’s the difference between “best match” and “best fit?” • Best Match refers strictly to numbers (GPA and ACT), which is not always a best-fit for students. • Best Fit is all things that pertain to what YOU want!

  12. August/September • Visit with counselors about classes • Meet with me! • Begin researching majors/colleges • Register for October ACT by September 18 • Talk to Mr. Amaya about A+ • Make deadline timelines

  13. October COLLEGE APPLICATION MONTH! • Campus Tours! • Admission Rep Visits! • College Fairs! (@Truman October 8th, 6:30-8pm) • Apply to college! • Take ACT on October 24

  14. November/December • Register for December 12 ACT by November 6 • Begin scholarship searches • College Scholarships • National Scholarships • Private Scholarships • Talk to your parent/guardians about future plans

  15. January/February • FAFSA Opens January 1 • fafsa.gov FAFSA stands for: FREE Application for Federal Student Aid Attend FAFSA Frenzy on February 25 5-7pm

  16. March/April • Missouri’s deadline for FAFSA is April 1! • Narrow colleges down to 2-3 • Check email/portals regularly • Verification paperwork • Housing deposits • Orientation paperwork

  17. May Select College! Attend Decision Day! Graduate!
