  1. Quick Tips to a GREEN Hajj Be An Impact

  2. What’s the Problem? A Devastating Sight The Facts All living things (biotic) depend on abiotic factors to survive. Those abiotic factors are limited and people are exploiting them. 71% of Earth is water and only 1% is available to drink 29% of Earth is land and only 5% is available for agriculture About 1.2K miles of agriculture is paved every year and it would take 3-12K yrs to try to replace only 30 cm of it. Pollution kills biodiversity in plants & animals, which decreases the health of the environment and decreases our chance of survival Pollution, amongst other health effects, is the main cause of asthma , mostly in kids

  3. Who is the culprit? All of us are responsible, but none of us are taking responsibility. Few understand the importance in being eco-friendly. Most people don’t know HOW to be environmentally responsible at Hajj.

  4. The Command of Stewardship The Victims of Corruption includes the Environment And [recall] when Moses prayed for water for his people, so We said, “strike with your staff the stone.” And there gushed forth from it twelve springs, and every people knew its watering place. “Eat and drink from the provision of Allah, and do not commit abuse on the Earth, spreading corruption. “ (Baqarah: 60)

  5. The Command of Stewardship Humans have a Right, and the Earth Has A Right And to [the people of] Madyan [We sent] their brother Shu’ayb. He said, “O my people, worship, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. So fulfill the measure and weight and do not deprive people of their due and cause not corruption upon the Earth after its reformation. That is better for you, if you should be believers. (Al Araf: 85)

  6. Quick Hajj Eco-Friendly Tips: Before your Journey • Bring a collapsible water bottle. Plastic bottles are one of the biggest pollution problems. • Choose a fuel-efficient aircraft like the Boeing 777/ 787/Airbus 345 to reduce carbon emissions. • Use biodegradable unscented soaps. • Before you leave home, adjust your heating & cooling systems. Unplug all appliances & chargers. • Find reusable travel size packaging over disposable travel-size packages. • Travel light and take only what you need. • Encourage hajj group organizers to book “green hotels”.

  7. Quick Hajj Eco-Friendly Tips: Before your Journey • 8. Take a reusable bag to avoid using a plastic bag. You will need it for miscellaneous usages. • 9. Use reusable highly sustainable bamboo utensils with case, not non-BPA-free plastic utensils. • 10. Use a solar-powered device charger and a USB cable to charge your phone, iPad, or whatever. • 11. Pack 100% cotton or thin cloth clothes, sunglasses, hat, and umbrella hat to keep cool.

  8. Quick Hajj Eco-Friendly Tips: DuringYour Journey • 1. Eat local to support local communities and their needs. • 2. Don’t use the plastic lined trashcan in your hotel room Housekeeping will change out the bag every time. Instead, use the trash bins in the hotel lobby. • 3. Ask when you check in that your sheets and towels not be changed every day, but every three days instead (or longer if you can manage). • 4. Water bottles are often given out for free, be resourceful, use it as a spray bottle by puncturing a hole in the cap or use it to hold trash or your jamarat pebbles. The possibilities are endless! • 5. When inside the Mina tents ,you’ll find gaps between the tents barriers. Use blankets to throw above the poles to cover those gaps as it helps keep the cool air in and hot air out. • 6. Rewash and reuse one to two set of clothes max during the last days of Hajj.

  9. Quick Hajj Eco-Friendly Tips: DuringYour Journey • 7. Don’t forget to turn off the lights and air conditioner/ heater when you are not using it in the hotel. • 8. Walk or pay to be wheel-chaired instead of taking the train, bus, motorbike, or taxi. Be reasonable & don’t overwhelm yourself. If a taxi is taken, fit as many people as possible. • 10. Post or Pre Hajj, take part in visiting geographical areas to appreciate Allah’s creation of and connect with the land that the Prophet sallahualayhiwasallam walked on. • 11. . Eat little and share food. Too much is given & will make you sluggish and unproductive in Hajj. • 12. In Mina, consolidate any uneaten food, especially packaged breakfasts, and distribute to other Hajj’s outside of the camps. They will be thankful!

  10. I’m only one person, how will I make an impact? • Do your part and teach those around you to do the same just by modeling the right thing to do. • You can make a strand of a difference, literally. (Hair after breaking ihram  ) • It only takes one person to throw garbage on the floor to make others believethat’s the norm and vice versa.

  11. Be A Positive IMPACT!!!
