  1. Quebec Act of 1774 • Quebec Act 1774: Goals: Meet the needs of citizens (French) more efficiently. • Re-establish the Canadian Borders for purpose of trade. • Colonists viewed this as an act of taking away more land. • The Colonists viewed this as an extension of the Proclamation of 1763. • The British viewed this as a wise business move to re-establish trade with the French in the new world. • Passed the Quebec Act of 1774.

  2. New England Restraining Act of 1775 • Designed to limit or end all unregulated trade in the colonies. • Also, limited Banking and Fishing rights within the NE colonies. • Narrowed trading foreign policies for the colonies. • The Act was passed as a means of keeping the French Canadians from conducting all financial matters with the colonies. • It also forced Colonial economy’s to trade very specific, and very profitable goods, with England only.

  3. Boston Port Bill of 1774 • Last Act that forced the Colonists to revolt. • Passed unanimously in Britain. • Forced all legal appointments to be done by the crown. • Judges and Sheriffs were to be appointed by the King. • All city council members and military officials (local militia types) to be appointed by the judges and sheriffs. • Outlawed all town meetings of any kind other than voting.

  4. Boston Port Bill 1774 • Colonist considered this to be a “revolt against the rights of people.” • Allowed for no public trials of any government officials. • Allowed the king to punish his officials like that of his military. • This Act would open the door for the Quartering Act. • With the Boston Port Bill the king also doubled the military involvement in the Colonies.
