  1. Understanding International Schools Assessment at Kidurong International School Wednesday 2nd October 2013

  2. Aims of the presentation To provide background information on International Schools Assessment at Kidurong International School. To provide information on the structure and administration of the ISA tests. To know what to expect in the assessment data provided after the testing.

  3. Background Shell Schools use ISA as the external tool for assessing pupil progress in the International Streams. We will continue to use English National Curriculum levels in Literacy and Numeracy through our ongoing, formative teacher based assessments.

  4. Essential features of ISA An assessment of mathematical literacy, reading and writing. For children in International Schools at Grades 3 (Primary 5) to 10 (upper secondary). Designed to be culturally inclusive. Mathematical literacy and reading based on the frameworks and scales of OECD PISA. (Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development Programme for International Schools Assessment).

  5. Administration of the tests Pencil and paper tests. Administered by teachers using detailed administration guides. Tasks include multiple choice, short answer and extended responses. Each test takes 30 minutes to 1 hour and will be administered over two days. All P5 to P7 students will be individually tested at the same time and on the same days.

  6. Testing dates and times: • Tuesday October 8th 0745 – 0755: Orientation and student details 0800 – 0845: Mathematical Literacy Part 1 0915 – 0945: Mathematical Literacy Part 2 1045 – 1130: Writing A • Wednesday October 9th 0800 – 0900: Reading 1045 – 1130: Writing B

  7. Reported data In January the school will receive the data analsyed from the testing. Only the school and the parent receive information about an individual child’s performance. The school will receive: 1. a school report 2. class/year group reports 3. individual children’s reports

  8. Individual Reports The ISA is reported in “ISA Scale” score points. For each learning area or domain (for example, Reading) a scale is constructed so that raw score results across different tests within that learning area can be standardised. Using scale scores, we can compare the performance of students in different year groups in the same year, of a particular year group from one year to the next, or of the same students from one year to the next.
