  4. Significance of Shraddh Shraddhis a ritual of offering food to please the pitrus(manes) and for their spiritual beneficence. Vasus, Rudras and Adityas are devatas and pitrus of shraddh (Yajnavalkyasmruti I/269). They are gratified by the Sofferings, which they pass on to the pitruswherever they may be. Respectively, the three deities represent the father (pita), paternal grandfather (pitamaha) and paternal great grandfather (p|rapitamaha) (manusmurti 3/284). www.vedicgrace.com

Types of Shraddh  There are 4 main types of shraddh: • Sapindikaran - Performed after the antyeshtisamskaras, to propitiate father, grandfather and great grandfather.  • Ekodishta - performed once in a year on the death tithi of the parents.  • Parvanshraddh - performed on an auspicious day or festival forfulfilling mundane desires.  • Vruddhishraddh- performed during yagna, vivah, murtipratishtha, yagnopavit, samavartan, garbadhan, pumsavan, simant, jatkarma and at samnyasdiksha.  www.vedicgrace.com
