  1. National Collegiate Athletic Association Eligibility Standards Uniondale High School

What is the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse? • Works with the NCAA to determine a student’s eligibility for athletic participation in his or her first year of college enrollment. • Mandates students who want to participate in college sports during their first year of enrollment in college to register with the clearinghouse. • Follows NCAA by laws and regulations in analyzing and processing a student’s high school academic records, ACT or SAT scores, and key information about amateurism participation to determine the student’s initial eligibility. • Website: http://www.ncaaclearinghouse.net

For the graduating classes of 2006 or 2007: Division I • If you plan to enter college in 2006 or after, your eligibility will be determined under the new rule.  That means that you must have 14 core courses to be eligible to practice, play and receive financial aid at a Division I school. • SAT/ACT Required

  4. For the graduating class of 2008 and afterDivision I • If you plan to enter college in 2008 or after, your eligibility will be determined under the new rule.  That means that you must have 16 core courses to be eligible to practice, play and receive financial aid at a Division I school only. • SAT/ACT Required.

  5. For the graduating class of 2005 and after Division II • If you plan to enter college in 2005 or after, your eligibility will be determined under the new rule.  That means you must have 14 core courses to be eligible to practice, play and receive financial aid at a Division II school. • In Division II, there is no GPA/SAT sliding scale. • The minimum core grade point average is 2.000. • The minimum SAT score is 820 (Verbal and Math sections only). • The minimum ACT sum score is 68.

Freshman/ Sophomore Year • ACADEMIC TASKS: • Take academic course load that meets NCAA regulations as approved core courses. • Maintain qualifying grades in all core courses. • ATHLETIC TASKS: • Begin to develop a sports record of athletic accomplishments. • Attend summer camps: -For exposure -To improve skills -To experience independent living -To compare your current skills with others

  12. ACADEMIC TASKS: Continue to take NCAA approved core academic courses. Meet with your guidance counselor to develop a list of possible schools based on your academic achievement and athletic ability. Register for and take the required standardized tests (S.A.T., A.C.T.). Attend college nights/fairs and read literature sent to you by schools. Visit college campuses. Develop an extra-curricular activity list. ATHLETIC TASKS: Develop an athletic profile sheet. Confer with your coach to thoroughly and honestly evaluate your athletic skills and recommend the appropriate level of college competition. Write initial letters of interest to college coaches. Develop a sports portfolio of athletic accomplishments. Attend summer camps (AAU or club teams in off season that provide Regional/National exposure) Junior Year

  13. ACADEMIC TASKS: Send for college applications. Register for standardized exams (S.A.T. , A.C. T.). Write a personal statement and include it with your application. Meet with your counselor to review application materials. File Financial Aid Form after January 1st. ( Money awarded is dependent on need, first come, first serve basis) Visit college campuses. ATHLETIC TASKS: Write to coaches expressing interest in their schools and athletic programs. Include an athletic profile, schedule of games, and record of awards. Respond to college questionnaires. Become familiar with “NCAA Guide For The college-Bound Student-Athlete”. Update athletic profile sheet. Develop a list of questions to ask. Be pro-active. Take initiative. Visit schools you are seriously considering and have expressed an interest in you. Senior Year
