  3. Dozo Sushi Grill & Lounge - Haymarket

  4. Dozo Sushi Grill & Lounge - Haymarket • Nearest free parking is 5.5 blocks away (BestParking) • Servers are personable; hosts and management are rude (Yelp!, 3.5 stars) • $15-$25 per entrée. Happy Hour Mon-Sat 3:00-5:30, reverse Happy Hour 10:00pm-1:00am on weekends (UrbanSpoon, 75% like) • Wide variety of sakes and Japanese spirits (Google+, 3.7 stars) • Bonus: “I heard they serve dolphin.” By far the dumbest online review I have ever seen. • Many people list themselves as employees on LinkdIn. This is an opportunity for Dozo to make use of the site (LinkdIn) • 2.4 miles, or 7 minutes, from home (Google Maps)

  5. Kinja Japanese Cuisine – 70th & Pioneers

  6. Kinja Japanese Cuisine – 70th & Pioneers • Free parking lot attached (BestParking) • Staff isn’t knowledgeable about sushi beyond the menu offerings (Yelp!, 4.5 stars) • $10-$15 per entrée. Very creative specialty rolls (UrbanSpoon, 85% like) • OMG Roll is flambéed and served in flames (Google+, 4.7 stars) • 4.4 miles, or 11 minutes, from home (Google Maps)

  7. Hiro 88 - Railyard

  8. Hiro 88 - Railyard • Nearest parking is $1 per hour, first hour free (BestParking) • Owner Charlie gave a firm, but polite rebuttal to the review of an unreasonable customer regarding Groupon use policies (Yelp!, 4.3 stars) • Opened 9.5.13 with a charity event (UrbanSpoon, 83% like) • Debit cards may have a hold of more than the total bill until the payment clears (Google+, not enough reviews for rating) • Family-friendly over dinner and busy in the late evenings; not good for a quiet date or couples wishing for privacy (Open Table, 4.4 stars) • 2.7 miles, or 8 minutes, from home (Google Maps)

  10. Decision • I don’t like driving through Lincoln, but I especially don’t like driving and trying to park in downtown Lincoln, or the Haymarket. Although Kinja is farther from home, it has free parking right in front of the building. • I understand that going here is more about “fusion” sushi than traditional rolls and ingredients. Although I consider myself informed on sushi, I don’t think I will judge it as harshly as some of those who hold it to the level of coastal or Japanese sushi. That is just a silly expectation. Obviously, the ingredients will not be as fresh. • Kinja has a lower price per entrée with a fun environment for groups, and I think that sushi is most fun when enjoyed as a group. • Based on this information, I will choose Kinja Japanese Cuisine.
