1. Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty LACK OF FOOD IS A WORLD THREAT and in particular for the South Sudan, as the world’s youngest nation. Dr. Abraham Bungkuac.

Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty World hunger, poverty & food security • 815 million people are starving globally, making it 1 in 3 people. • By 2050 there will be 9 billion people in the world & they need to eat. • The world needs to come together to make food security its number 1 priority.

Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty • In 2011 South Sudan gained independence. • In 2013 South Sudan went back to war. • 4 million people became refugees and 7 million more face starvation. • South Sudan is the poorest country in the world: however, it has enough natural resources to potentially feed Africa.

Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty Solution • Politicians are willing to support SEMA’s project. • Peace deal set to be signed in April 2018. • 1000 ex-soldiers have been disarmed and trained. • 80,000 farmers identified and allocated land for agriculture. • We have engaged -WFP/FAO to purchase seeds from our farmers.

Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty How much is needed to start to address above challenges • USD $30,000 is needed to scale up and buy more oil machines to enable more production & subsequently reduce high oil prices in the market. • In return the entire population of 13.6 million will be able to purchase ground nut oil at affordable prices. • $4.00 per 1 litre compared to $12.00 per litre.

10. Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty Business Idea Solution (BIS) • Manufacture cooking oil from groundnut, sesame and sunflower seeds. • Simultaneously provide a vital source of income • Nutritious high protein food that could prevent child malnutrition.

11. Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty Benefits of Groundnuts • Groundnut oil has high demand in the market • Has a higher yield in small areas in comparison to other crops • By products include fertilizers, animal & poultry feed

12. Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty Food production, processing and sales. • A poor farmer who has not received tools, seeds & fertilizers will produce only 50kg annually and cultivate less than 1 hectare

13. Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty • But a farmer who has received training, tools, seeds and fertilizers will produce 50 tonnes. It is estimated 4 million tonnes of food will be produced by 80,000 farmers.

Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty Cost of groundnut oil production & sales. • $30,000 to boost the capacity of groundnut oil production. • 80,000 farmers shall produce 4.M tonnes of seeds = 1.6 million litres of oil by 2019 • The oil sold at $4.00 per 1 litter, estimated to earn $6.4 Million interest. • To beshared by 1000 groups

Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty Main Activities • Create local agro-processing industries • Train on entrepreneurship & marketing skill • Provide farmers with tool/seeds & fertilizers • Support fishing, poultry & livestock services • Food processing and water management • M&E of project completion & achievement

19. Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty SERMA’s Partners • Ministry of Agriculture, Juba, South Sudan. Approved to support food production. • Ministry of Finance, Juba South Sudan, agreed to support any starting project. • Upper Nile University, Juba, South Sudan to provide training to extension workers. • GDN support scale up in fighting hunger and eradicating poverty in South Sudan.

Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty Past Projects Implemented • Women and Youth Empowerment Project in Juba, Funded by CBTF in 2014 • Food for Peace and Development Project in Rumbek State, funded by FAO in 2015 • Capacity Building for Law Enforcement in Lakes State, funded by UNDP in 2016 • South Sudan Livelihood Project in Aweil funded by WFP in 2017

21. Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty Projects Proposals in progress • Addressing poverty through agribusiness & trade in 2 states Jubek & Aweil funded by GDN. • Women & Child Protection by UNHCR. • Food Reserve Board an opportunity that we are on the look out for Partners.

22. Theme: Fight hunger to eradicate poverty Expected Outcomes • 3,000 new jobs will be created by 2020. • 1000 smallholder farmers groups established • 80,000 individuals farmer receive kits & seeds • Fall in cooking oil prices in the market • 4 Million tonnes of G-nut produced annually • 80 rainwater dams & 20 small water distribution systems will be constructed by 2020.
