  5. Suitable for 4th & 5th grade • Old enough to reason with • Easier to teach accountability • Mature conversations

  6. Community Building • First 2 weeks • Curriculum will be implemented with activities • Getting to know each other • All About Me • Favorite Things ( Show and Tell)

  7. Community Building • Cooperative Activities • Build things together in science and math • Character Building • Read books and focus on morals

  8. Distributing the Responsibilities • Sprucing up the Classroom • Everyday after lunch • Rotations every week • Dusting, organizing books, vacuuming ,watering plants ,throwing out trash ,feeding pets…etc. • Standing in Line • Class will help decide what we will look like in line • Responsible Helper at the End ( rotations) • Everyone will have the chance to be the helper “You abuse it you lose it” –Alyssa Vallieres

Beginning and End • When students arrive: • Place homework in specified location • Have Independent Study Time • Catch up on Homework • Work ahead • Study • Read a book • If they need assistance : • Raise their hand but keep silent • When students leave school for the day: • Space must be clean and organized

  10. Restroom and Water Time • No restroom or water time during Direct Instruction • One person at a time • Take Hall or Restroom pass

  11. Transition Time • 5 minute break will be given between subjects : • Drink water • Use the restroom • Put materials away • Stretch • Give teacher time to get ready • Students are expected to: • Use appropriate voice level • Be respectful and stay on task • Be ready to start once time is over

  12. Rules • Students will help make classroom rules • Teacher rules include: • No violence –verbal or physical • No inappropriate language • No weapons of any sort (even paper ones) • Students will be encouraged to be the best person they can be from the beginning.

Consequences • Verbal warning • Not focusing on task • Disturbing others • Did not follow a procedure • Minors • Deliberately breaking a rule • Two or more verbal warnings • Majors • Break a Teacher Rule • Two or more Minors • Consequence • It’s a warning • Consequence: • Consequence Jar • Consequence: • Letter to parents • Lose privilege

  14. Hopefully… • Students will bond in such a way that we do not have any major issues • 2 weeks will help deal with potential behavior management issues • Students will understand that we are a community and all need to be good citizens

  15. Awards System • Reward Jar • Exceptional behavior along with school work • Marble or Jewel System • Homework on time • Focusing on work • Follow routines • Intrinsic Reward • Back to Community Building

  16. Good Citizenship • We are a community and all need to help each other • We all have different and EQUALLY important responsibilities in this classroom • Good Citizenship Award • More than one per month • Students will create checklist

Record Keeping • Spreadsheet • Columns for Verbal Warnings, Minors, and Majors • Checkmark to keep track • Students take sheet home to parents at the end of the week and it must be returned by Monday. • The sheet must be signed • Students must be willing to try to improve • Copy for • School • Teacher • Parent
