  1. Common Spice Myths About Spices • Spices are an integral part of Indian cuisine and add spark to the recipe, which ultimately draws us to it because without spices, the dish will be bland & boring. • But, there are quite a lot of rumors & misconceptions about spices, which are circling the internet nowadays, and due to that, people are debating whether they should integrate them into their dish or not. • So today, we have decided to unveil some of the common myths.

  2. Statement 1: SPICES DON'T NEED PRESERVATION • Fact: Absolutely False!! • All the spices have a distinct life, after which they start to lose their flavor and aroma. • They should be kept in an air-tight container away from direct sunlight and water. • To learn how to preserve spices, click here.

  3. Statement 2: SPICES SHOULD ALWAYS BE CONSUMED FRESH, NOT DRIED. • Fact: Not True!! • Some spices can be toxic when consumed fresh. • On the other hand, some spice, when dried and ground have their most pristine and robust taste. • If you don't believe us, just try dry basil or thyme or dry ginger powder or black pepper

  4. Statement 3: LOOSE SPICES ARE SAFE FOR CONSUMPTION • Fact: No, No, No. • Loose spices are very dangerous & highly adulterated and don't have that natural flavor and aroma that spices are known for. Moreover, they can impact your health negatively. • The seller won't even give the assurance of the quality and how they are processed. Whereas, brands like Vasant assures you that our products are 100% authentic.

  5. Statement 4: SPICY FOOD CAN CAUSE ULCERS • Fact: No, it does not!! • This is probably the oldest spice myth that has infiltrated the minds of people into thinking spice food is not good for their health. • A stomach bacteria named Helicobacter pylori is the real reason behind Ulcers. In fact, a 2006 study proves that red chili and its active compound- capsaicin plays a role in preventing or alleviating stomach ulcers.

  6. Statement 5: SPICY FOOD CAN KILL YOUR TASTE BUDS • Fact: Well, it is partially true because you will feel numbness, but that does not kill your taste buds. • While the extremely spicy food can numb you momentarily, it just your defense mechanism at work. • If you are a fan of spicy food but cannot tolerate it, you can increase your spice tolerance over time by integrating more capsaicin into your diet in small doses.
