  2. Contents • Discussion Marks • Essential Questions • Discussion

  3. Discussion Marks • Participation is expected every class. In Unit 4, participation will be marked. • You will have many opportunities to answer questions. You must raise your hand. • Each day that discussion occurs, I will write down a mark: • 0 = you do not participate • 1 = answers are thoughtless and/or incorrect • 2 = answers are thoughtful and/or correct • Your points will be added together and averaged.

  4. Essential Questions • The EQs provide a frame of reference through which you can understand Ysabel’s purpose and themes. • We may not answer each EQ in class, but you should always be thinking about them (and taking notes) while you read.

  5. Essential Questions - Discussion • Is time relative? • Is it important to ask the question, “Does history repeat itself?” • Was the world once a more violent place? • How can travel change you? • What are the checkpoints on the journey to becoming an adult?

  6. Essential Questions - Discussion • Is it true that, “With great power comes great responsibility”? • Why are some people inclined to believe in the supernatural while others are not? • Are there natural or supernatural forces that push the world toward balance? • Is family the most important thing in the world? • Can you avoid destiny?
