  4. Some Terminology ACCREDITED LAB- A LABORATORY THAT HAS MET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE PMO/ 2400 FORMS. CERTIFIED INDUSTRY SUPERVISOR (CIS): AN INDUSTRY SUPERVISOR WHO IS EVALUATED AND LISTED BY A STATE LEO AS CERTIFIED TO CONDUCT DRUG RESIDUE SCREENING TESTS AT INDUSTRY DRUG RESIDUE SCREENING SITES FOR PMO, APPENDIX N REGULATORY ACTIONS (CONFIRMATION OF TANKERS, PRODUCER TRACE BACK AND/OR PERMIT ACTIONS).

  5. Who Has to participate in split samples? • All certified analysts (CIS) must participate in split samples. • Analysts must have a passing rate. • In the case an analyst does not meet the required amount correct they would be downgraded. • Note: NYS only allows Accredited laboratories/ Certified Analysts. No Screening Labs.

  6. ANALYST CERTIFICATION • ANALYSTS WHO ARE FULLY CERTIFIED CAN BE DOWNGRADED to a conditional status: • Unsatisfactory split results • Unsatisfactory on site with a LEO • Analysts can be brought back up to fully certified by a satisfactory performance in the area that resulted in the downgrade

  7. Why do you need to Participate in Split Samples? When a CIS examines bulk milk tanker milk or its equivalent for Appendix N purposes, a minimum of eight (8) samples shall be analyzed utilizing the test kit(s) for which that CIS is certified or approved, or for which the CIS is seeking certification. In general, the milk samples shall consist of the members of the beta-lactam family, at the safe/tolerance levels, which the test kit(s) is designed to detect as well as milk samples containing no animal drug residues. The CIS may misidentify one of the samples and maintain and/or gain certification. If more than one sample is misidentified, the CIS falls one level of certification. If this occurs twice consecutively, the CIS is no longer certified or approved (rules for Recertification of laboratories apply).

  8. When are split samples performed? • Split samples are held annually. • Drug residue samples are normally distributed in May of each year. • A schedule is sent each year to assure each analysts availability. • Samples will be delivered by a dps (inspector). Some are mailed overnight depending on your location.
